Where are the Jobs?
The last two years have been challenging for many of us, whether as a business owner, employee, parent, or whatever. I myself was displaced in June 2008. Many of peers and friends have lost their jobs or are underemployed. Like many I have attended job transition groups, career fairs, and other job events in search of work—whether as an employee or contractor. I make regular calls to recruiters, I search the web, I attend LinkedIn events, I talk to complete strangers, and look for ways to make an impact as a start-up business owner. I refuse to term myself un-employed, after all I am trying to build my own business in these difficult times. If anything I am underemployed. Giving up is not an option. I stay active and that gives me energy and hope. I talk to my friends and family and stay engaged in personally rewarding activities. I read and write as these are great ways to relieve tension.
